A Johannesburg court has rejected a child abuser's claim that the four children he sexually assaulted instigated the activity.

The Johannesburg High Court yesterday found Moses Mulaudzi, 54, guilty of three charges of sexual assault, one of rape and four of causing a child to witness a sexual offence. He is to be sentenced today

Judge Naren Pandya spent most of yesterday reading his 80-page judgment, in which he detailed how, in 2011 Mulaudzi lured neighbourhood children into his home in Pango Camp, Munsieville, Krugersdorp, on the West Rand, with sweets and money.

His victims were girls aged between seven and 11.

A neighbour raised the alarm after noticing children frequently visiting Mulaudzi.

The children's statements to the police, and the results of medical examinations, led to Mulaudzi's arrest.

Mulaudzi pleaded not guilty to all the charges but the court found the children's evidence the more credible.

Judge Pandya described Mulaudzi as a "manipulative" witness.
