Matric exams began yesterday with the three-hour computer application technology practical written by 8340 pupils in the Western Cape.

A power cut prevented 22 pupils at Manzomthombo Secondary School in Mfuleni from writing the exam.

Kial Davids, 19, from Parow High was nervous, but not just for the exam.

"You have to sign in and I was scared to make a mistake. They spent an hour taking in the papers and checking the numbers," he said.
