Regarding "Shut up about e-tolls" (November 20), Sanral's move to call in a "transport economist" to try to convince the Gauteng majority that e-tolls have "no effect" shows the depths of insanity to which our state-owned enterprises have descended.

May I ask Dr Roelof Botha if the billions in e-tolls - the world's most expensive - might be used for a living expenses fund for businesses and citizens?

Eighty percent of e-toll revenue goes to the Austrian billing company, but our government cannot afford to sustain R62-billion in "irregular state expenditure" without creating outrageous new taxes.

This explains why Angie Motshekga is still Basic Education Minister. If pupils don't have textbooks, they cannot read economics to spot the creative cover-ups.
