Land reform would be in a far better state if political parties spent more time working together than criticising - or making asinine statements.

We have already had the horror of black people being dispossessed of land under apartheid. We do not need to see violent land grabs and war talk by the Economic Freedom Fighters and their ilk.

We need unity and co-operation, not threats and division.

Let us concentrate on developing initiatives that are sensible in nature, such as the Land Redistribution for Agricultural Development proposal, which seeks to help those living in rural areas to improve their living standards by enabling them to access and use land productively.

The word "land' holds a special and sovereign meaning, and we should acknowledge the fact that without proper land very little can be achieved.

It is time for our people to start taking advantage of programmes that will be of benefit to them and make land reform a success.
