KwaZulu-Natal health MEC promises parents full report into suspected food poisoning

KwaZulu-Natal's MEC for Health Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo visited the Esimozomeni Primary School in Richmond this afternoon, following an outbreak of suspected food poisoning last Friday, which affected at least 70 children between the ages of nine and 12.

All the children, who were seen at local clinics and referred to Edendale, Northdale and Grey's hospitals, have been discharged and were back at school today.

The MEC, accompanied by a School Heath Nurse from the Ndaleni Clinic in Richmond, they inspected the school premises, kitchen and toilets. Dhlomo also received a briefing from the school principal and members of School Governing Body before addressing over 200 concerned parents who had converged at the school.

"The parents were informed that a full report of what had happened will be made available once the environment health inspectors have completed their investigation," the MEC's office said in a statement.
