'F*ck boere' painted on statues defaced in Krugersdorp

A statue of Paul Kruger and another of JG Strydom have been vandalised in Krugesrdorp.

The statues stand near Key West mall which lies to the north of Krugesrdorp.

They were erected as memorials and dedicated to Kruger who was the first president of the Transvaal and JG Strydom who was the prime minister of South Africa from 1954 to 1958.

According to The Krugersdorp News, the statues were strewn with red paint and the words 'fuck boere and fuck kruger' were painted on the ground and on the statues.

Amanda de Lange, a member of the Freedom Front Plus told the weekly she believed the vandalism was the work of the Economic Freedom Fighters.

"We want to make it clear to them and send a message out. We are not going anywhere. They can bring their paint, we will wash it off. In our eyes, these are actions of people who are illiterate and have no heritage."

Krugersdorp police said they are investigating the incident.
