Aborted foetuses have become a major cause of sewer blockages in Emjindini, Barberton according to a report.

The Barberton Times reports that two bodies were found in a drain at extension 11 in Emjindini on Sunday.

Local municipal workers found the bodies, one of which was believed to have been about 12 weeks old, when they were cleaning a blocked drain.

A case of concealment of death has been opened, and an investigation is ongoing.

“Most of the blocked drains that we unclog are usually because of babies that have been dumped into toilets after illegal abortions. Residents should desist from such practices,” Municipal spokesman Sam Jele told the paper.
