''Choppers are water bombing it,'' said JP Smith, City of Cape Town safety and security mayoral committee member.
The fire is quite high up the mountain so no evacuation has been called.
People in the area tweeted in alarm that smoke was billowing out of the Newlands Forest.
Over 100 firefighters had to work for days to bring the Simonsberg fire under control.
Thousands of hectares of timber plantations and vineyards were destroyed.
Firefighters would carry on damping down hot spots at the perimeter of the Simonsberg fire and will monitor it to make sure the danger has passed completely.
The City of Cape Town suspects an arsonist may be at work, although others have blamed the heatwave and dry weather.
