The University of Cape Town (UCT) has issued a warning about danger in the vicinity of Rhodes Memorial following the rape of two students in as many months.

UCT head of media liaison, Elijah Moholola, on Sunday confirmed the latest incident took place on Tuesday and was reported by the student.

It is “something that is of a huge concern”, he said.

Both incidents were being investigated by police.

“The university has sent out a campus-wide alert to caution students and staff of the dangers around the Rhodes Memorial vicinity, especially after dark,” he said.

UCT continuously sent out safety and security awareness communiques to the campus community and offered counselling, medical and other forms of support to the survivors, Moholola added.

Police spokesperson, Captain FC Van Wyk, said two incidents of rape are being investigated.

No arrests have yet been made.
