A Free State woman, who was badly beaten and found with stones on top of her, is recovering in hospital police said on Wednesday.

On Sunday morning, the community found the woman badly beaten and with stones on top of her at a village in Mabolela, in QwaQwa in the Free State, police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring said.
"The woman was last seen on Saturday evening, leaving with an unknown man at a tavern. It is not yet known what exactly happened and reason for her bad assault," said Mophiring.
A case of attempted murder was being investigated.
No arrests had been made yet.
