Zimbabwe has impounded a cargo plane carrying cargo for the South African Reserve Bank after a body was found on board.

According to Bloomberg, Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe Chief Executive Officer David Chawota said “The police are now handling the issue and the plane, which is owned by Western Global Airlines, has been grounded at Harare International Airport since Sunday.”

The Western Global Airlines plane was en route to South Africa from Germany - and had landed in Harare in order to refuel.

According to  Pradeep Maharaj, the bank's group executive for the currency cluster, the body is believed to be that of a stowaway.

"The SARB is working with the relevant authorities to ensure that the cargo is released and transported to South Africa,” Said Maharaj.
