UCT vice chancellor back at work despite attack by protesters

Students protested for a fourth consecutive day on UCT’s campuses, finally marching to Jammie Plaza where student leaders addressed a large crowd before allowing vice-chancellor Dr Max Price to talk.

Despite being attacked by a group of protesters Max Price‚ vice chancellor of the University of Cape Town‚ returned to scheduled activities on Friday. And he is yet to lay charges with police.

On Friday police has to escort Price to safety during a scuffle on campus. Price and two members of his executive met with protesters outside the Bremner building. When he tried to leave - said the university's executive director of communication and marketing‚ Gerda Kruger - protestors encircled him.

"Dr Price attempted to walk way when he received two punches to the body‚'' said Kruger.

On Saturday Patricia Lucas‚ manager of media liaison and communications‚ said after the incident Price returned to his scheduled activities including a council meeting and he did ''not require medical attention''.

Asked whether a case of assault had been lodged with police‚ Lucas said: "This is under consideration.''

The university will resume academic activities on Monday.
