The good rains in Johannesburg this week‚ which are filling up dam levels‚ will not lead to a swift suspension of water restrictions.

Johannesburg Water‏ said on Friday that the national department is expected to review restrictions in May.

Thanks to the rains‚ the entity said the Vaal Dam was 88.48% full on Friday morning.

Gauteng Weather‏@tWeatherSA reported the same‚ saying the Vaal Dam's level had risen by 6.84% points in the past 24 hours alone‚ reaching two year highs.

  • Warning to communities living near Vaal and Bloemhof dam floodplains to 'move as soon as possible'The department of water and sanitation has warned communities living near the floodplains of the Vaal Dam and the Bloemhof Dam in the North West to move as far away as possible to avoid flooding.

The dam is expected to hit the 90% mark by early Friday afternoon.

At the same time‚ residents are being warned of flooding due to high soil moisture and ongoing storm activity over the province.

Our neighbours in the Western Cape‚ however‚ are bone dry and the city is pleading with residents to conserve as much as they can. Dam levels are at 24‚5% of usable water.
