Two pregnant women crossing a freeway were flung about 50 metres and died after being hit by a car on Wednesday afternoon in Gauteng.

The women had just visited a clinic and were trying to cross the N14 freeway near the Beyers Naude off ramp when they were hit by a white Nissan just before 3pm.

Netcare 911 said one of their ambulances came across the pedestrian collision while travelling along the N14.

“Netcare 911 paramedics and the Krugersdorp firefighters ran across to the patients who were flung about fifty metres before they landed in the centre median‚” said a statement by Netcare911.

“Tragically it was found that both patients died on impact due to the extensive injuries that they sustained. The crumpled remains of the vehicle that had hit the females came to rest about 100 metres up the roadway.”

Police will investigate the cause of the crash.
