Stepfather arrested after 18-month-old dies from injuries

Western Cape police have arrested the stepfather of an 18-month-old toddler who died from series injuries to the head and body.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said that according to reports‚ police responded to a complaint at a health facility in Kensington in Cape Town where health workers informed them of about an 18-month-old boy who died from injuries after he was brought for medical attention.

“The child had sustained serious injuries to the head and body‚” Rwexana said.

She added that the child's 26-year-old stepfather had been arrested and the 30-year-old mother taken in for questioning.

“The suspect will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court once charged.”
