A taxi driver was arrested in Cape Town after he tried to squeeze 32 passengers into his vehicle.

The taxi was so full that 14 of the passengers had to remain standing.

According to the City of Cape Town, the driver was also unlicensed and was operating in contravention of his operating license.

"I appeal to the public to please steer clear of overloaded vehicles, for their own safety and that of others. Incidents like these do nothing for the reputation of the taxi industry and so I also call on owners and associations to address this type of lawlessness," the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security; and Social Services, Alderman JP Smith said in a statement.
