Convicted Nigel rapist still on the run

There has still been no sign of convicted rapist Johannes Petrus Cordier, who escaped from the Nigel prison in Ekurhuleni earlier this week.

Correctional services department spokesperson Zandile Mabunda said on Friday that they were following every lead.

Mabunda said the circumstances relating to his escape were still under investigation.

Cordier, who was serving jail time for rape, escaped on Wednesday.

The department has appealed to the public to assist with any information that could lead to his re-arrest.
