IN PICTURES | Mountain biking and music as more than R1m raised for charity

More than R1m was raised for charity as around 3,000 people attended Off the Beat ‘n Track, a mountain biking event at The Big Red Barn in Irene, near Pretoria, on Saturday.

The event featured riders as young as three and some more than 65 years old. 

The 50km men’s race, sanctioned by the country's governing cycling body, Cycling South Africa, was won by Phillimon Sebona, with Jaedon Terlouw in second place and Pressmore Musur Dhlamini taking third. The women’s race was won by Danielle Strydom, with Chloe Gardner taking second place and Yolandi Mostert in third. 

Viral sensation, Marelize Horn - better known as 'My f** Marelize' - from Windhoek, was also up to the challenge by completing the 5km route without serious incident - barring one tree that made its way onto her path.

The highlight of the event was when Hendrik Steytler, Deon Brink and Ivor Potgieter completed their gruelling 11-day, 1,650km journey from Cape Town to Pretoria for their #MilesForAMillion tour. Through the generous support of South Africans, the trio raised R1m for Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels.
