A US man has called 911 to see where he could get some marijuana, according to reports.

The Washington County dispatch centre released the call as part of its You called 911 for that?! campaign.

The agency also posted the call on its Facebook page

"This is just one of many examples of what you shouldn't be calling 9-1-1 for," the agency wrote on Facebook.

During the call, the man asks the dispatcher where he could buy some marijuana, reported Oregon Live.

Here's a transcript of the call, as reported by UPI:
Man: Where can I get some marijuana?
911: Excuse me?
Man: Where can I buy some marijuana this morning?
911: Do you realise you called the police department?
Man: No I didn't. That's very interesting. Well, let me ask you the same question. (long pause) It's a legitimate question.
911: Which question is that?
Man: Where can I buy some marijuana this morning?

After the dispatcher told the man she didn't know the answer to his question, he thanked her and hung up.

Hillsboro police were still dispatched to check on him, said the report.
