Sufi pir faces murder charge after attempted resurrection fails

A Sufi pir (a spiritual leader) in Pakistan who believed that he could resurrect the dead convinced one of his followers to allow him to test this hypothesis.

The Business Standard reports that unfortunately for the pir, Muhammad Sabir and the follower, one Muhammad Niaz, it didn't work.

When Sabir realised his miracle failed to work, he tried to run away. That also didn't work, as the villagers caught him and handed him over to the police.

He is now facing murder charges.

Villagers told police that the pir also used to sacrifice animals and birds and sprinkle their blood on his followers to save them from black magic.

Niaz supported his six children on a daily wage, but his family has expressed no regrets at his passing.

Samina, the victim's sister told reporters that he had sacrificed himself for the Sufi, and asked, "Why should I mourn when I know that my brother is in heaven?"
