The parents of a 30-year-old man resorted to drastic measures in an effort to get their son to finally move out of the family home - they sued him.

Michael Rotondo's parents said their son wouldn't leave their house in Syracuse, in the United States, despite the fact they had handed him several eviction notices, according to WABC News.

Mark and Christina Rotondo said they began giving him notices as early as February and even offered him $1,100 (nearly R14,000) to help him find a place of his own. They claimed he doesn't contribute to the family's expenses and doesn't help out with the chores.

The Syracuse.com reported that in April, the couple went to Camillus town court to try to evict their son, but were told it required a Supreme Court justice to remove a family member.

Michael argued that legally he wasn't given enough notice to leave. However, on Tuesday Supreme Court Justice Donald Greenwood disagreed and ordered Michael to vacate the home.

Michael said he would appeal the decision.
