Communication between ANC leaders and people in the Eastern Cape came under the spotlight at the province's executive committee lekgotla.

"A commission on legislature and governance thoroughly discussed how ANC leaders deployed to government, municipalities and parastatals must prioritise communicating with the people of the province and sectors of society," provincial secretary Lubabalo Mabuyane said in a statement.

Mabuyane said earlier in the day Deputy Communication Minister Stella Ndabeni urged delegates to prioritise community radio stations for communication by the ANC, government and municipalities and not just newspapers.

"The commission agreed that government and municipalities must make use of newspaper, radio and TV adverts to showcase the work done to develop the province," Mabuyane said.

He said the African National Congress could not allow negative reports to characterise the party's public image when there were a lot of good things done in government and municipalities.

The lekgotla started on Saturday and would run until Tuesday afternoon.

During the lekgotla delegates would also assess government's performance, the link between the government and ANC work and improving public participation and constituency work.
