Strip Guptas of SA citizenship‚ says SACP's Cronin

South African Communist Party deputy secretary Jeremy Cronin has called for the Gupta family’s citizenship to be revoked.

He was speaking at a memorial service for struggle stalwart Ahmed Kathrada at St Georges Cathedral in Cape Town on Thursday.

Cronin took a hard line‚ saying the party stood by Kathrada’s previous call for president Jacob Zuma to stand down.

He called for ministers and their deputies to be subjected to lifestyle audits and an inquiry into the links between the Guptas and public enterprises. The Guptas' citizenship should be revoked‚ he added.

Cronin also called for the implementation of the Public Protector’s recommendations on the State of Capture report. The memorial service is continuing.
