An investigation has cleared suspended Eskom boss Matshela Koko of wrongdoing‚ The New Age reported on Thursday.
Koko‚ who was acting CEO after Brian Molefe's departure from Eskom‚ was suspended earlier this year after allegations of a possible conflict of interest involving his stepdaughter‚ who was a director of a company that scored R1 billion in business from Eskom.
The New Age also reported that the Eskom board would be dismissed after weeks of controversy over its handling of Molefe's reinstatement as chief executive.
The Eskom board has come in for harsh criticism for its handling of the Molefe saga.
Earlier this month the board was forced to axe Molefe after he stepped down following a report by former public protector Thuli Madonsela that implicated him in allegations of state capture.
The board said at the time that it had no choice but to have Molefe return after public enterprises minister Lynne Brown turned down a R30 million exit payout for Molefe.
Brown had said that the board's future would be decided at its annual general meeting‚ which is scheduled for Friday.
Brown has yet to appoint an acting CEO after she and other members of an inter-ministerial committee recommended Molefe's dismissal for a second time.
Board chairman Ben Ngubane‚ who was a strong supporter of Molefe‚ has since resigned.
Eskom board spokesman Khulani Qoma told The New Age that law firm Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr and Nkonki had completed the investigation into the allegations against Koko.
Qoma would not comment on the content of the Koko report but told TimesLIVE that Brown had referred it to the board for consideration.
"The report has been referred by the minister back to the board. The board is considering the report so that it can make a recommendation to the minister. That will be either today or tomorrow‚" Qoma said.
Brown's spokesman Colin Cruywagen said he could not comment on The New Age article since had not seen it‚ but would respond to queries within an hour or two.
