The ANC in the Western Cape has again failed to force a debate of no-confidence in premier Helen Zille in the legislature.

Two weeks ago the party filed an urgent motion of no-confidence against her after she was given a notice of suspension by the DA.

At the time Zille was facing a party disciplinary hearing over her colonialism tweets, which could have resulted in her losing her job as premier.

Zille has been let off the hook after smoking a peace pipe with party leader Mmusi Maimane and apologising publicly.

According to the deal, Zille may no longer participate in DA party activities except for caucus meetings of the Western Cape legislature.

ANC leader Khaya Magaxa told the legislature yesterday that his party expected the motion to be discussed.

"It was supposed to have featured last week but we were given reasons that we did not accept," said Magaxa.

But the deputy speaker of the legislature, Piet Pretorius, did not have the power to place the debate on the agenda because that is the job of the multiparty programming committee.

ANC chief whip Pierre Uys accused the DA of delaying tactics.

He said that DA chief whip Mark Wiley told the house last week that the motion would never be discussed.

But Wiley said the motion was on the order paper and would probably be discussed next week.

He said one of the reasons the motion was not set down for yesterday was that Zille was not present. She is out of the country and social development MEC Albert Fritz has been sworn in as acting premier.
