DA best to deliver on economic growth, job creation, fighting crime in Gauteng - poll
The DA was chosen in a recent poll as best placed to deliver on economic growth and job creation, and to fight crime and corruption in Gauteng.
Of the voters polled, 34.9% felt the DA was the best placed to deliver on economic growth and job creation in the province, while 34.7% believed they were the best placed to fight crime and 33.1% of voters felt they were the best party to fight corruption.
These were the findings of the Institute of Race Relations (IRR) second tranche of results from its February 2019 election poll.
The IRR's Michael Morris said the poll was fully demographically representative and comprised only registered voters.
A total of 1,611 respondents were questioned. The national margin of error was 3.3%.
The EFF voters were universally dissatisfied with the ANC's national government's performance on economic growth, crime, education, healthcare, corruption and land reform.
All voters scored the ANC the highest on delivering on service delivery.
According to the poll, the only exception for the ANC, as a national issue, is fighting corruption, on which a majority of voters - 30.1% - regarded the EFF as the best to do the job.
Among black voters, the ANC has emerged as the dominant choice to deliver best on all issues at national and provincial levels.
The EFF emerged as the best party to fight crime among black voters in Gauteng (36%) and to fight corruption, both nationally (38%) and in Gauteng (38%).
The poll found that the DA universally dominated at every level and on every issue among minority voters, all with a very high majority.
Satisfaction levels among EFF voters in Gauteng had also increased.
In the IRR’s poll in December 2018, the ANC had 56% of the vote, the DA 18% and the EFF 11%. In the most recent poll, conducted from February 12 to 26, DA support increased to 21.8% and the EFF to 12.2%.
In the February poll, the ANC was on 54.7%, down 1.3 percentage points from the December result of 56%.
