Following a slew of homophobic tweets which emanated from Coudjoe Amankwaa's Twitter account, the sports analyst has issued an apology after feeling the heat from the public broadcaster.

Amankwaa, who works at the SABC as a researcher, scriptwriter and soccer analyst apparently tweeted a barrage of homophobic tweets.

Some of the tweets read; 'What is this trend among gay guys, who go for hot chicks and ask their hands in marriages, knowing they fire blanks all day , all time 24/7.'

Another tweet read: ' The mere fact that you cannot respond rationally on the issue of gayism shows its a problem and abnormality.'

The tweets from Amankwaa's account caused an outcry with several blasting him for using a public platform to air his views.

The SABC then distanced itself from the soccer analyst - and asked him to apologise to the broadcaster and public. Kaizer Kganyago, SABC spokesman said Amankwaa had also been issued with a warning.

In his defence, Amankwaa claimed his account had been used by someone else without his knowledge but took responsibility for the incident.

"I would like to apologise to the SABC, an esteemed institution that embraces diversity, and to the South African public at large for the harm caused by what was written on my Twitter account."
