Springbok coach Peter de Villiers has announced only one change to the team that will take on Wales in the second Test in Cardiff on Saturday.

With centre Jean de Villiers declared fit to play and utility back Frans Steyn relieved of his club duties, Zane Kirchner has been demoted to the bench.

Steyn takes over the number 13 jersey.

"He is one of those guys with the X-factor," said De Villiers.

"He is the type of player who can be quiet in a whole match and then suddenly he produces something really brilliant that wins the game for you.

"There is no point in having a special player like that available to you and then not select him, so that is what we have done. It would be a waste to keep him on the bench," he said.

Kirchner was favoured over Adi Jacobs in the team's list of replacements, while a final call still had to be made on who would be selected as the team's substitute loose-forward.

The Bok coach will give Sharks' eighthman Willem Alberts more time to recover from a calf muscle injury he picked up in the Currie Cup final.

He could pick Alberts's trophy-winning teammates Ryan Kankowski or Keegan Daniel, who earned his first Test cap against Ireland last week.

Springbok team: Gio Aplon, Bjorn Basson, Frans Steyn, Jean de Villiers, Bryan Habana, Morne Steyn, Ruan Pienaar, Pierre Spies, Juan Smith, Deon Stegmann, Victor Matfield (capt), Bakkies Botha, Jannie du Plessis, Bismarck du Plessis, Tendai Mtawarira.

Replacements: Chiliboy Ralepelle, CJ van der Linde, Flip van der Merwe, (TBC), Francois Hougaard, Zane Kirchner, Patrick Lambie.
