Be careful what you post on social media. It’s a lesson quickly learnt by the social media crew of the Sharks rugby team.

They created a bit of Monday morning hype in the Twitter world after posting a picture of an “abandoned” BMW‚ parked at Durban’s Growthpoint Kings Park Stadium‚ since the Springboks trounced France on Saturday night.

The post by the Sharks‚ which included a picture of the BMW parked on the outfield‚ read: “We understand Saturday night may have been a great time with the Springboks’ win but please can the owner of this car fetch their vehicle as we have a busy practice schedule this week.”

There was even speculation amongst stadium staff that it belonged to a “rugby legend”.

But Sharks spokesman Novashni Chetty quickly put rumours to bed‚ saying: “This was actually one of the stadium vehicles that was parked there that our social media team took a photo of.”

The car belonged to a staff member‚ she said‚ who could not move the car because another staffer had the key.

“The social media team did not check and posted that.It was just one of the stadium member’s car.”

Chetty said the car did not belong to any rugby legend.

Both the BMW and the Twitter post have been removed.
