Kaizer Chiefs’ flop Katlego Mphela revealed that the reason he left the PSL champions was not based on disciplinary issues, as indicated by the club, but due to lack of game time.

The former Bafana Bafana striker, who was released by Chiefs last month, told Daily Sun he could no longer play second fiddle to anyone and blamed former coach Stuart Baxter’s ‘false No 9’ system which saw “Killer” at the back of the striker’s perking order.

“I actually wanted to leave Chiefs – my mind was made up a long time ago,” said the 30-year-old.

“I was not going to be anyone’s punching bag or second choice . . . I just wasn’t enjoying my football. I wanted to be No 1 and for that I needed to play.

“I’ve never had any bad relations or fought with any coach in my career. If I feel I have to go, then I have to go.

“It has never been about money for me, I just want a chance to play

“Also, I’m not finished at Bafana.”
