Mashamaite on a 10-day trial with New York City FC

Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Tefu Mashamaite is on a 10-day trial with Major Soccer League (MLS) club New York City FC in the US with the view to a potential free transfer.

The South African Footballer of the Season was pictured on Wednesday training alongside City players Frank Lampard and David Villa and, according to New York Sports Hub, the 30-year-old, alongside defenders, Angelino, Shay Facey and Andoni Iraola, “could give NYCFC a completely revamped defense and change their team completely.

 

The former Bidvest Wits skipper is currently free agent after being released by Chiefs and would be a free transfer for City, who are also expected to announce the signing of Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo on Thursday.

 

Mashamaite has played 164 matches in the Premier Soccer League and has scored 13 goals.
