One of my favourite DJing moments has to be performing at the opening ceremonies of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. The feeling and energy of being a part of an event of that importance and being surrounded by the athletes as they entered the stadium is something I will never forget.
I've been lucky enough to collaborate with some of the biggest artists in the world like Nelly Furtado and Flo Rida, to name a few. Sigur Rós is one of my favorite bands and it was amazing to get the opportunity to collaborate with Jónsi, their lead singer. We wrote Kaleidoscope together, which turned out to be the title track of my current album.
On my latest album,Kaleidoscope, I brought together all the different musical influences I had been enjoying at the time.It still has the essence of what makes up the Tiësto signature sound, but I took it in a whole new direction.
I'll be coming to South Africa next month for the Smirnoff Experience Mashup-themed party. I've been impressed with other Experience events around the world in places like Paris, Shanghai and Moscow. I think the SA Smirnoff Experience is going to be the best yet.
The chance to collaborate with BLK JKS, the most exciting new band from SA, is something I might not have done were it not for Smirnoff asking me to be part of this experience.
The concept of mixing and remixing music genres and cultures is something that continues to inspire me. I'm really excited to share the new track we're making (BLK JKS and I) and the live show with the entire world.
It was really interesting to work with such young and up-and-coming artists. BLK JKS have great creative vision and a lot of enthusiasm. It was fun working together.
