Intersections and Matatiele actor Thobani Mseleni scored a new gig just weeks before he was killed in a horror car crash outside of Queenstown in the Eastern Cape. The crash claimed the lives of five people, including his friends Akhumzi Jezile, Siyasanga Kobese and two others.

Thobani's cousin, Thandolwethu Piliso, told TshisaLIVE the star had gone through a lot over the last few months and after struggling to find work, he decided to clear his head with a trip home to Fort Beaufort.

"He decided to go home for a month because things were not going well, but he didn't give up." Thando said.

Thobani starred in the controversial film Inxeba, which was banned from cinemas for a brief period after the Film Board's Appeal's Tribunal rated the film X18. The ruling was challenged in court and an interim order was granted to allow it to be screened until a final ruling on the rating is announced.

With the Inxeba court battle nearly wrapped up, Thobani returned to Joburg because he said he wanted to give support to the other members of the cast. Within days of him returning, he was able to find work again.

"He got a gig when he got back. He was so excited. He told me he would give me all the details later, but that day never came," Thando said

Thando said that he last time he saw Thobani was on the Thursday when the actor was collecting clothes from the house to go away for the long weekend.

"They went away for the weekend to attend an uncle's wedding. They were in high-spirits but it was so sudden (their deaths)."

He said Thobani's uncles were heading to Queenstown on Sunday to identify the body and plan his funeral.

"His father passed away nearly ten years ago but his mother is still alive and she's devastated. She can't even speak at the moment."
