Lerato Kganyago has cast the spotlight on adoption and the red tape that surrounds the process.

Taking to Twitter on Monday night, Lerato started a conversation about the lengthy process that involves adoption in SA.

She explained that after thinking about it she realised that the process of adoption was very difficult.

Lerato has previously opened up about suffering two miscarriages.

"I have actually lost two children. I have only spoken about the (most recent) one because it was the one that affected me the most. That was when I really wanted to have a child," Lerato told Anele on Real Talk last year.

At the time Lerato also said that she was in therapy to help her deal with the pain of losing a child, and that she would consider adoption in future.

Lerato said in addition to the existing red tape associated with adoption, there were so many complexities including traditional and stereotypical limitations.

Lerato said she hoped that the government would also help share this information because as she engaged with her followers, she realised it was a rare commodity and that wasn't fair.

She also had to constantly remind fans that she was just igniting the dialogue and was not necessarily in the process of adopting.
