The death rate as a result of car accidents in South Africa is one of the highest of the world, and in December that number skyrockets. If the advertisement from the Gauteng Traffic's Arrive Alive campaign has anything to do with it, people will think twice before having "one more for the road".

The ad, which is part of the Asifikeni (alert today, alive tomorrow) campaign, features a happy and smiling man, who has a woman piggy bagged. The words next to them say, "Life goes on after you're gone..." then continues to say, "Your wife with her new man," as a caption to the happy couple's picture.

The aim of the ad is to spread the message that driving under the influence will bring you nothing but bad news and to implore people not to do it.

The advert went viral on Tuesday after it left many tweeps in their feels over how "harsh" it is.

The track to the ad features  Nelisiwe Sibiya, Sjava, Rouge and Kid X.
