From the start of his career, Bongani "Mörda" Mohosana has always made sure to embrace growth.

Having started as a dancer, he's transitioned to being a producer and an internationally acclaimed DJ.

After nearly 13 years in the entertainment industry, Mörda, who previously went under the moniker Murdah Bongz, believes his career is just beginning.

The DJ spoke to TshisaLIVE about taking a break from the Black Motion musical group to pursue a solo career.

In May a statement shared on Black Motion's official social media pages slammed rumours of the band splitting and emphasised taking time apart to focus on their personal ventures.

"I still stick to that statement. I didn't leave Black Motion, I just went solo," Mörda told TshisaLIVE.

"I'm still Black Motion, I'm still a fan of Black Motion, my blood is still Black Motion. There is more you can do. You should not limit yourself."

While some social media users have attempted to pit the two stars against each other, Mörda said he's on good terms with band member Thabo "Smol" Mabogwane regardless of the "new" member introduced to the public as his replacement.

"We are cool, it's just that I was surprised there is a new member. I had no idea what was going on. I was focusing on this album since I don't have Twitter.

"I don't know what that is about but we will talk about it when the time is right and we're together. I am shocked to be replaced. We will have our way to resolve this. I just want to hear from them. I want to see him face-to-face."

Mörda said he does not pay attention to social media comments.

He took time out to find his own sound as an individual artist, doing research and visiting renowned artists' studios, creating his debut 10-track project titled Asante (named after his daughter with DJ Zinhle Jiyane) in a month.

Although he was nervous about going solo, Mörda wants his followers to get to know him better through his music. Having topped radio charts with his album, he has new confidence.

"I had music but ended up scrapping it all. I spent a lot of time with Asante. Seeing Asante grow was a journey,

"I'm in a space where I'm in love, I love my kids and I have to accommodate that. Love changed my life. My wife changed the way I think. My outlook on life is family comes first. I want to tell my story through my music. I can say a lot without the lyrics."
