'Just because you want to faint at the cemetery, doesn’t mean everyone should': Simz Ngema defends Babes

Simphiwe “Simz” Ngema has come to Babes Wodumo’s defence as she faces scrutiny for her grieving process after the death of her husband Mampintsha. 

Big Nuz member Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo died on December 24 after suffering a minor stroke. 

Babes has occupied trends lists after a video of her dancing to Big Nuz’s hit song Ngeke at Mampintsha’s funeral at the eThekwini Community Church (ECC) went viral.

Weighing in on the saga, Simz went live on Instagram saying people should not expect Babes to look distraught but rather let her grieve in her own way.

“People will judge for anything you do, it doesn't mater what it is. You should do what makes you happy and content. You should live your best life the way you want to live it,” she said. 

Simz, who lost her husband Dumi Masilela in an attempted hijacking in 2017, reflected on how trolls shared their opinions about how she chose to mourn her partner. 

“I remember three weeks after Dumi passed away I would post a lot about how I miss him ... people would say; we are tired of hearing of Dumi ... Three years later, Simz gets a man then people want to say it’s too soon.”

Simz slammed trolls questioning Babes' actions.

“Let her dance if she wants to, let her dance. Even if she went on stage wearing bum shorts, she must dance. As people we are not the same ... just because you want to faint at the cemetery, doesn’t mean everyone should also faint,” she said on Instagram live.
