February 27 marked a great day in hip hop as some of Mzansi's A-listers made their way to Paramount Africa's rooftop for the premiere of Love & Hip Hop SA.

Official cast members DJ Speedsta, singer J Molley, rappers Da L.E.S, Gigi Lamayne, Money Badoo, Yanga Chief, Fifi Cooper, Shane Eagle and his girlfriend Nicole "Nikki" Swartz were in attendance.

During a Q&A session, Da L.E.S said he felt his role on the show was important as he was an OG who could shed light on the entertainment business with the new school hip hop acts.

"It's really important for me to be on the show so I can offer my past experiences, studio and guidance. These guys are the future. It is only right for me as an OG to do the right thing."

Gigi said though the show was about stars juggling their careers, relationships, and family dynamics, she wanted to tell the story of the young male black child.

"You will see lots of love. Gigi's got a lot of love to give. I've been very deliberate making my narrative around the young male black child and feeling he is constantly put in a position where he is criminalised, being known as an aggressor more than a protector. As a young woman of colour it is my obligation to protect the man of colour in the world we live in."

Rapper Shane said though he'll be sharing a glimpse of his life, he had some tricks up his sleeves.

"I'm one of the most unpredictable artists in the game so you're going to have a hard time trying to understand, but I feel like music is the vehicle for me to do a lot of things. I think this is also a cool platform for my fans to see a little bit more of why I became who I became."

Having spoken openly about his mental health issues, J Molley plans to hone in on the subject and other challenges on the show.

"There's two sides to me. There's the side that wears designer, but that's not really me. I'm a down to earth genuine guy. I'm an person who cares about life, world hunger, mental health and much more. And that's what you going to see. A person who is humble, wants to change people's lives"

The first episode of the show saw female rappers Gigi and Fifi  address their longtime beef during Gigi's celebration dinner. A teaser to the second episode showed Gogo Maweni making an appearance, and Shane and his partner alluding that they are preparing themselves for a baby.

The second episode set to air next Monday sees Fifi finishing her upcoming album as she speaks about  what she’s been up to.

Yanga Chief and DJ Speedsta talk about life and relationships at the barbershop, while Gigi and Fifi are set to meet to try iron things out between them.
