'Thank you for helping me fight against people who tried to destroy me': Lady Du lauds DJ Maphorisa

Lady Du has lauded DJ Maphorisa for playing a pivotal role in her success in the music industry.

The amapiano sensation took to her social media timeline, expressing her gratitude to the DJ and producer. 

In the post, Lady Du recalled meeting Maphorisa while on a school tour and everything happening in her life at the time.

“He literally became a big brother and took over same time. Thank you for helping me fight against people who tried to destroy me, thank you for listening to all my stories of depression, and giving me the best advice. You were the first person to give me my first big deal, my first big sync deal with castle eight years ago.

“Thank you for helping me bro, thank you for giving me a platform to be myself. Thank you for allowing me to tell you my problems. We need more people like you,” she wrote.

Maphorisa has often been accused of being a “gatekeeper” in the music industry.

In an episode of Podcast and Chill, MacG said: “Now I must ask Maphorisa before I drop an EP. They said Maphorisa is going to be mad because I did not ask for his approval because he is a gatekeeper.”

Thereafter, the DJ said he did not understand MacG's sudden disrespect, considering how far they'd come together. 

“I see you don't get it. No-one owns amapiano, anyone can do it and win. Good example, look at Uncle Waffles, one trending Adiwele video [and] the rest was history. She did it alone. Oh look at Costa Titch, he's doing it alone and winning. Stop saying I'm a gatekeeper,” he said at the time.
