While she's known as the lady on the one's and two's, popular DJ Miss Pru is gearing up to wear a different hat: that of a wellness spa owner.

She took to her Instagram timeline on Monday to announce her beauty business Sedi Beauty.

“My spa is situated in Rivonia. I found a small space that’s a perfect start for me. The name Sedi means light and it’s part of my first name Malesedi. Light serves as a symbol of life, happiness, prosperity, and, in a wider sense, light is also symbolic of wisdom, hope and truth. So there’s always some beauty in finding a bit of light, especially in these tough times we’re living in today,” she explained to TshisaLIVE.

Miss Pru said she's always wanted to venture into business since she was in high school when she used to knit bags and sell them and that's what kicked off her entrepreneurial spirit.

“It took me a lot of years to finally realise this was the path for me. I’ve been researching and planning for this. I’m a qualified somatologist. I’ve worked in the beauty industry for some time and I’m doing my post-graduate diploma in business management because I want to fully understand how the business side works. My end goal was to always start a beauty salon. I needed the educational tools to give me a bit more confidence to start.”

She said while she was working as a beauty therapist she had a dream of owning her own salon. She hopes her salon reminds people their wellbeing is important.

“I’d love for people who come to my spa to leave feeling brand new and ready to take over the world. I’m well aware women and men love taking care of their skin and looks, however we also focus on the wellness aspect where we offer massages and IV drips as a form of revitalisation. Beauty spas of this nature are an emerging market because many of us want to take care of our physical and mental health and this is an extra form of self care that’s affordable.”

Most businesses have closed down due to load-shedding and other economic factors, something she said she has prepared and planned for.

“ I definitely did. From the area I chose to the types of treatments I offer, and most importantly the pricing, I made sure it accommodates these issues. No matter how much I’ve planned I’m constantly praying it goes well. In this terrible economy we’re living in it can go either way. I’d like to think I’ve prepared well and will do best with the opportunities I’ve been blessed with.
