Wright Ngubeni chats about new 'black tax' show 'KuRuff' coming to the aid of struggling breadwinners

Showmax has aired the first episode of a show titled KuRuff, which highlights the challenges of being the sole breadwinner in your family.  

It's a topic some people tiptoe around while others dive right in. However you view it, “black tax” is as reality. The show is a first, wherein Showmax and Moja Love have collaborated. 

In each episode, former child star Wright Ngubeni facilitates a meeting between the sole breadwinner and the family members he has issues with.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Wright said black tax is not limited to monetary contribution and there is more to it than that. 

“Black tax is on the tip of everyone's tongue. If the second person is not talking about it, they have experience in it. It's quite a broad subject that sometimes can be brushed off, it's one of those things you can pinpoint when it's happening.”

He said black tax is happening around us, whether in ekasi or the suburbs. 

“Black tax is not just in the financial point of view, but you can get taxed emotionally as well, if you look at a lot of black people going up when you start working and you need to start contributing financially and its an unwritten rule. You find yourself having to deal with a lot of financial baggage because no-one is coming to your aid or cares about what is happening around you.”

KuRuff will air every Monday on Showmax.
