DJ Lungelihle 'Uncle Waffles' Zwane has Mzansi marvelling at her international connections after she played a set at the Met Gala after party.

Hollywood A-listers went from the main event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art into the heart of New York City to party, and Uncle Waffles got to rub shoulders with all the renowned celebrities.

The amapiano sensation gave her followers a glimpse of the experience that saw her meet legendary model Naomi Campbell and rub shoulders with Nigerian superstar Ayra Starr.

Major League DJz also shared images of their time spent at the after party with Burna Boy, Michaela Coel, and Stormzy among others.

The amapiano DJs also got to play behind the decks.

With the amapiano genre having become popular beyond the borders of Mzansi, we've seen South Africa talent getting more recognition abroad.

Speaking recently to TshisaLIVE, Banele said we are yet to see the impact of the genre.

“I think the genre outside South Africa, [amapiano] falls under Afrobeats a lot, so a lot of people are playing into the diaspora market. Diaspora is people that live in New York or America who are from Africa and those are the people growing the sound. What we have done is try to move away from that and move to the dance scene.

“The dance scene is more Caucasian. It is the main market so that's where we are trying to put amapiano. That's how we play it different from a lot of people, so that's our journey in where we want to take it.”
