Just a little over a month ago Muvhango announced its lead actor Gabriel Temudzani was leaving the show permanently after 23 years on air.

There was a public outcry from fans of the show who were sad the actor's time was up. Some  shared their suspicions the “exit” may have been a public relations stunt.

On Wednesday's episode Chief Azwindini made a miraculous return after he was killed by his arch-rival Tenda.

Muvhango confirmed Gabriel 's return to the soap opera to TshisaLIVE.

“We are thrilled to confirm Chief Azwindini has returned to Muvhango after his departure in May. We received an overwhelming response from viewers who have expressed their excitement over his return, and we appreciate the unwavering support.”

Taking to his Instagram timeline recently he thanked fans of the show.

“Indoda must have nine lives. Azwindini is back by popular demand on Muvhango. Thanks to the public outcry. The viewers have power,” he wrote.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE previously he said his character and Muvhango wouldn't be what it is if it wasn't for the viewers.

“We can say what we want, but the viewers make the show. If the viewers are not there we might as well close shop and go to our respective homes. The viewers have been a pivotal part of the work we do and the world we find ourselves in. So big up to viewers and may they continue to watch and embrace the show and see value in what the show brings to the people, especially to South Africa.

"I think Muvhango is one of those shows we need to guard and protect because it brings us hope to say, in our different existence, we coexist and that's something to write home about.”
