A farmer was left bleeding profusely after being bitten unexpectedly by a pig in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands.
Midlands EMS said the man, thought to be in his 50s, was bitten on Sunday afternoon in the Karkloof area. The farmer was going to feed the pigs when one of them approached him from behind and bit him.
Paramedics met the farmer while he was already en route to hospital.
"They quickly assessed the patient and found he had deep cuts to his right knee, with an arterial bleed as well," said the ambulance service.
"Midlands EMS crews stopped the bleeding and stabilised the patient before transporting him to Life Hilton Private Hospital for emergency theatre treatment."
