Since gaining stardom after a video of her dancing to Young Stunna's Adiwele went viral in 2021, Uncle Waffles has been basking in success, embarking on a journey that has seen her rise from a viral sensation in the clubs of Soweto to a global icon who sells out arenas in Europe.
After completing her US tour, the Tanzania hit maker announced she had bagged a big collaboration with KFC South Africa, introducing a new meal to its menu.
Now, hot off the release of her new single Echoes from her latest project, Solace, her US and Europe tour, taking over the Coachella stage and her BET awards nomination, the Uncle Waffles Burger is now going national after a brief flirtation at Kentucky Town.
Uncle Waffles is taking her fans on a trip down memory lane of her top career moments by dropping location clues and asking fans to “Hack the Streets”.
“Being able to show fans my journey in music and life is both extraordinary and humbling. Watch for the clues, visit the landmarks, find the scannable QR codes, get the UW Burger to secure the bag, and maybe even win an exclusive Uncle Waffles experience with KFC or some limited KFC x Uncle Waffles merch. Find it. Scan it. Shop it. Share it,” Uncle Waffles said in a statement shared with TshisaLIVE.
Hloni Mohope, marketing director at KFC, said: “Bringing together KFC and Uncle Waffles in this one-of-a-kind collaboration has not only been exciting but inspirational. It enables us to tell the story of the global success of Uncle Waffles, to spread the beauty of Amapiano, and celebrate it with an exclusive burger that will only be available for a limited time.”
'Yoh nkosi yam!' — Dee Koala unimpressed with KFC's Uncle Waffles burger
Dee Koala had her first taste of the DJ Uncle Waffles KFC burger and is not impressed.
The rapper shared her review in a now-deleted TikTok video where she stated her disapproval of the meal consisting of a crispy KFC fillet dunked in maple chipotle sauce, served with cheese between two warm waffles.
“Guys I’m not into sweet stuff, so I’m taking one bite and that’s it,” she said.
Dee Koala, real name Odwa Situma, said she meant no harm in sharing her views.
“You know what guys, let me try and taste the chicken without the other part. Sorry Waffles, I love you, but yoh. It tastes bad, and Waffles must not get offended, you didn't make this burger. Maybe it works without the waffles, it’s all I got to say but yoh nkosi yam.”
