Convicted kwaito star Brickz has been busy giving his fellow inmates gospel tunes.

Brickz, real name Sipho Ndlovu, is serving his 15-year jail term at Leeuwkop maximum facility, after he raped his 17-year-old relative in 2013.

A source close to the Tjovitjo hitmaker said he is looking forward to his release.

“Mabrigado is in high spirits and focusing on his release from prison. The wardens and inmates are always dazzled by his music since he is part of the choral group. He is optimistic one day the prison gates will open for him as a changed man. People will be shocked as he wants to drop a gospel project once he's free,” said the source.

“Jail has changed him. He went back to the genre (gospel) he used to be in. Music fans will fall in love with him once he's released.”

In 2022 the department of correctional services rubbished claims Brickz was set to be released. It said the singer must complete half his service to be recommended for parole.

This week departmental spokesperson Logan Maistry said Brickz has not been released on parole.

“The inmate will only be eligible for parole consideration after serving the minimum requisite detention period.”
