Load-shedding will end at 5am on Friday due to a recovery in Eskom's generating capacity.
Speaking at Eskom's daily status of the grid briefing, CEO Andre de Ruyter said the country would move from stage 3 to stage 2 on Thursday.
“We will maintain stage 2 until 5am on Friday and we will be able to lift load-shedding at the weekend,” he said.
In a statement, Eskom said stage 2 would kick in at midday on Thursday before being lifted on Friday.
“This has been made possible by the return to service of many of the units that had suffered breakdowns over the past two weeks, and a sufficient recovery in emergency generation reserves. The improved demand response for different stages of load-shedding has also enabled a faster than anticipated recovery.
“Total breakdowns have reduced to 11,224MW while planned maintenance is 7,030MW of capacity as we continue with the reliability maintenance.”
