Fire at Kloofsig substation affecting electricity in parts of Centurion

The City of Tshwane says it is on site assessing the damage after a fire broke out at Kloofsig substation.

City spokesperson Selby Bokaba said the extensive damage has affected power supply to Kloofsig, Lyttleton and Barnard Park.

He said emergency services responded to a raging fire at the substation in Centurion at about 1am on Wednesday.

“They successfully managed to extinguish the fire,” he added.

Bokaba said the cause of the blaze has not been established as the site is inaccessible until an insurer evaluates it for access.

“The city’s technicians are assessing the damage, gathering material and cobbling together a recovery plan. It is too early to estimate when power will be restored to the affected areas.”
