Cape Town-based singer-songwriter Rowlene recently released her new album, 11:11 - her first since bursting onto SA's music scene in 2016 with her single Imposter.

Collaborating with the likes of Nasty C and Nigerian singer, songwriter and music producer Nonso Amadi, she says she's ready for a new phase in her music career.

We spoke to the 23-year-old songstress to find out what's on her radar in the world of music, books, apps, series and movies:

MUSIC

Music is such a dope way of expressing yourself and allowing yourself to get moved or taken away or put in a different dimension just by virtue of what you're listening to. It's the one thing that keeps me sane — one good song can change my mood entirely.

Songs on my radar are Jukai by Jhene Aiko, Alone from Will Gittens, Say You Love Me by Jessie Ware, Sunday Morning, a song on my new album featuring Manana (watch the music video below), and Endorphins from Tobi Lou.

BOOKS

I find that books are the easiest way for me to calm myself. I've always been a big reader. You can read books over and over again and always learn something new.

Books I love are Looking for Alaska by John Green (my favourite author), Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, The Power of the Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy, The Year of the Yes by Shonda Rhimes and The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.

APPS

Apps are super informative. I use The Pattern, Co-Star (it generates your astrological chart), Spotify and Canva, a graphic design platform used to create social media graphics and other visual content. I like these apps because they help to make me a better person and enable me to develop myself in terms of my creativity.

SERIES

I love watching series, but I don't just watch anything. It needs to be super dope or else I don't even make it past the first 10 minutes.

The Blacklist, How to Get Away with Murder, Game of Thrones, Grey's Anatomy, Breaking Bad and Adventures of Gumball are series I've finished and I think they are 10 out of 10.

MOVIES

When it comes to movies, I like anything that makes me feel good, has a good storyline and makes me have a better outlook - like you can learn something from what's happening.

Some of my favourite movies are The Matrix, Frozen, Uptown Girls, High School Musical (all of them) and Django Unchained.
