Notorious Juicy is behind bars‚ the Young Gifted Bastards are without one of their key leaders and Blikkiesdorp is sleeping easier.

If that sentence makes your head spin‚ welcome to the Cape Flats‚ where gangs and gunfire keep tens of thousands of residents in a state of constant unease.

City of Cape Town law enforcement principle inspector Wayne Dyason said on Wednesday that officers from neighbourhood safety teams were giving special attention to Blikkiesdorp‚ near Delft‚ because of a spate of shootings.

On Tuesday evening‚ they were stopping and searching people during a hunt for a gunman when they came across a “suspicious” individual.

“Officers realised this suspect looked like the Notorious Juicy‚ one of the main generals and gunmen of the Young Gifted Bastards‚ well known for terrorising the Blikkiesdorp community and wanted for double attempted murders‚ assault‚ grievous bodily harm‚ housebreaking and armed robbery‚” Dyason said.

The officers took the man to Delft police station‚ where his identity was confirmed and he was arrested.

“Police informed the officers that an operation would have taken place that night to go and arrest Juicy‚” said Dyason.

Juicy” was the first single from US rapper The Notorious B.I.G.’s debut album‚ “Ready to Die”‚ in 1994. B.I.G. was killed in a 1997 drive-by shooting in Los Angeles.
